Most logo designers will start the project by asking their clients what font they would like to use, what colors they prefer, what kind of logo style they would like to have, etc.
We used to do that because it’s easier that way. We can get to work right away, and there are fewer things to think about, but we stopped doing that. Keep reading to see why.
Design Directions: Self-Medication is Dangerous
Asking the client what they want for their logo is like a pharmacist selling a customer what they want, even without having to get diagnosed and getting a prescription first. It places their brand at risk and would be a waste of their time and budget.
Design Directions: Shiny Object Syndrome
It’s easy to jump from one logo design to another when you don’t have a clear objective or strategy for the logo design. It can lead to numerous unnecessary rounds of revisions and experimentation, resulting in a lot of wasted time and effort.
Design Directions: No Collaboration
The designer will end up just taking orders from the client. Even if it does not look right, there’s little to nothing the designer can do, and when the result has a bad outcome, do you know who takes the blame? You guessed it! It’s the designer.
When you have a logo design project, no matter how sure you are with what you want for your logo design, discuss it with your logo designer first and ask for their opinion.
