Dumalaay Coastline Resort Logo & Visual Branding Design
Logo and visual branding design project for Dumalaay Coastline Resort in Siquijor, Philippines. It’s a place where you can just relax and unwind with your friends and family. The place offers guestrooms, a restaurant and bar, and a leisure pool. They also offer a space where you can hold events for any occasion.
The Challenges
The client wanted to take their branding seriously and bring it to a professional level since they’re planning to invest in signage, marketing, and print materials already and they don’t want to waste their money by having everything reprinted later.
The old logo looked generic and does not really represent what the resort, its people, and the place are about. It lacked personality and distinctiveness. We need a design that people will remember and will showcase its distinct personality and story.
The Story
The resort is located in Siquijor, a place known by Spanish conquistadors as Isla del Fuego or Island of Fire because it was lit up at night by swarms of fireflies on its coastlines. In front of the resort is an iconic boulevard lit up by old Spanish-style design lamp posts.
From the resort, you can view the beautiful sunset with the Negros peaks on the horizon. The place is a mix of laid-back vibes and where you can still have some fun too.
The Proposals
We presented the four best design direction options we can take for the logo design – wordmark, letterform, pictorial mark, and a line-art emblem style design. The clients decided on focusing on the wordmark and line-art emblem-style designs since these look more distinct.
Line-art emblem style design for the icon showing the boulevard lamposts, sunset view, and silhouette of the highest peaks of Negros. The pinkish, magenta, teal, and brown reflects the colors of sunset and the soothing ember glow of the fireflies. The neo-classical font chosen perfectly complements the design style of the graphic.
The same creative direction as the first proposal but the graphic emblem icon is more focused on showcasing the fireflies which used to be very abundant in the area. It’s great imagery that you don’t see every day with resort logo designs so it makes this design very distinct. The teal and shades of green give the brand a relaxing and premium feel.
Wordmark style design for the resort logo with the graphic elements placed on top. It shows the boulevard lamp posts, beach waves, and the seven-rayed sun reflecting how Siquijor is located in region 7 of the Philippines.
The logo design is focused on the brand name itself with the letter “L” as the boulevard Spanish-style lamp post and the negative space below represents the coastline where the sea meets with the sands on the beach.
The Final Designs
The family who owns the resort has voted and decided to combine the designs from proposals one and two. They were a bit conflicted at first regarding using the firefly imagery since it’s rarely seen anymore in the area but decided to go with this since it’s a part of their history and a great way to separate their brand from other resorts. For the colors, they chose the pink and magenta color scheme since it reflects the relaxing sunset but has a fun element to it. All these elements have come together to showcase what the brand is about, its people, culture, and history.
