African themed restaurant logo and branding
A restaurant logo design and branding project for Jambo’s Grill – a grill restaurant showcasing African cuisine based in Dubai. The goal is to attract foodies which are fun, adventurous, and are not afraid to try new flavors – so we reflected these qualities to the whole project. An alignment of the brand goals to the designs.
The Logo Design
A combination mark logo design style is used for this brand. It is where the text is combined with the graphic. It makes the logo look like a fun and modern emblem. The typeface design is chosen for its active and amusing appearance. The background graphic is a stylized Nguni shield with spears. A traditional oval-shaped shield used in southern Africa. The black, yellow, orange and red colors are used to reflect the colors of the charcoal and flames in the grill. Just by looking at the design, it will already give you an idea of what type of cuisine the restaurant is offering.
Below you can see how adaptable the logo design is. The design still works even when applied on a dark background. It also works as a single-color logo. Just one of the few qualities of an effective logo design.
The Visual Branding
A clean and bold typeface style for the body text is used to balance the fun look of the logo. This gives the brand a professional feel. It is also easier to read and looks cleaner. A muted old world map for the background gives the brand a sense of adventure. Where the dinners can explore the different flavors of Africa. Only a few colors are selected for the overall branding so the attention of the viewer will be on the food rather than the design.
